I searched everywhere on the web and also followed HP's whitepaper for deploying Windows 8 32-bit / x86 but still fail at the end. FDSetup.exe would fail to run causing the deployment to fail.
Please note that during this setup I had multiple error messages that I did not take note of but I found a solution to those error messages by Google the MDT error code.
With that said let us get started!
What will I need? :)
- ADK for Windows 8.1 - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39982
- Windows Server 2012 (WDS) - If you are using PXE your Windows Deployment Services(WDS) has to be on a Windows Server 2012 box. In my case I have MDT 2013/ADK for Win8.1/WDS all on the same Windows Server 2012 box.
- HP ElitePad 900(G1) Tablet base model Windows 8.1 32-bit driverpack - ftp://15.193.113.29/ftp1/pub/softpaq/sp64001-64500/sp64292.exe
- Windows Root Certificate Update package for Window 8.1 x86/32-bit - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931125
Import drivers into MDT 2013
The right-pane shows the only drivers that I imported from the sp64292.exe file. Notice that I didn't added the drivers from sp63851.exe - "Driver - Firmware and Chipset" package". This is because sp63851.exe will be installed another way.
Also, I have created a WinPE folder with only network and storage drivers for MDT as also shown above.
Create a Selection Profile specific to this model in MDT 2013
Inject drivers: Modify your Task Sequence to inject all drivers from the selection profile
Update Deployment Share or completely regenerate Boot Image
Add Windows Root Certificate as an application to MDT 2013
"X86-all-rootsupd_01a26e5c75ff5b3e34fb6b763ace486fe6836aac.exe /q" without outer quotations("").
Add "sp63851" - (Drivers - Firmware and Chipset) as an application to MDT 2013
MDT Task Sequence for HP ElitePad 900(G1) Tablet - Format and Partition Disk
MDT Task Sequence for HP ElitePad 900(G1) Tablet - Add applications (Certificate & sp63851)
- Install Root Certificate - Installs the Windows Root Certificate application which was one of the applications added above.
- Extract contents to C: drive - Installs the "sp63851" application package which was one of the applications added above.
- Install HP BIOS Firmware from C drive - Added as a command line with the following switch:
- Restart computer - This is just a basic restart command which runs after FDSetup.exe is complete
- Remove HP BIOS Firmware from C partition - Added as a command line with the following switch:
Conclusion:
Note:
I used a retail version for Windows 8.1 Pro 32bit for testing. This was directly imported into MDT and the installation went fine. Thank you for reading.
