Let's face it. Some of us have contemplated on moving to another City, State, or Country for many reasons. For some they are drawn to the daily action of the big city life. For others it could mean a job opportunity of a lifetime. Whatever your decisions may be it won't be an easy one to make.
In my case it was on the simpler side of things. I was single, did not having any kids, and was very adventurous. My motivation for moving from Brooklyn, NY to Denver, CO was for a better career opportunity. At the time I did not know that my new city would be Denver, CO. I performed a lot for research before hand and narrowed my search down to two(2) states: North Dakota and Colorado. With the news blowing up of the Colorado movie theater shooting I was quickly beginning to rule Colorado out. Also since I have asthma I didn't know how I would hold up living in a higher elevation State.
A few weeks had past and now that I have 2 States in mind I began to look at Craigslist for job opportunities. I have been using Craigslist in Brooklyn, NY for almost everything so it only felt normal to continue that tradition. Therefore I started looking for IT Jobs in Cites of those respectful States. What I found was that Cities in Colorado had more postings of IT Jobs versus that of North Dakota. This was a big indication to me that I stand a better chance in Colorado if I want an IT Job.
On August 21, 2012 with all the information gathered and processed I made to leap of faith to make Denver, CO my new home base on frequency of IT Jobs on the Craigslist website.
The decision was not easy but it was worth it in so many ways and I am happy I made that decision. I am currently in IT field working full-time as a Service Desk Analyst at Air Methods Inc. making $20+/hr and running my home-based computer repair business part-time on the weekends. Would you like to guest how I found that job at Air Methods Inc.? Craigslist.
My suggestions for you is if you are thinking about it make sure that you weigh the pros and the cons. I am eliminating personal wows that I went through on this journey but as I said before it was all worth it. Also use resources like Craigslist where possible and do a lot of research from people who have been there and can give first-hand experience.
