Are you happy with your home/small business computer network? We are!
Here is our setup.
1 x CenturyLink ZyXEL c1000z modem/router
1 x D-Link DIR 825 ver B1 wireless router w/ DDWRT Firmware (see this video on how to flash)
2 x TP-Link Gigabit switch model TL-SG108
3 x Laptop/desktop workstations
1 x Server
1 x Ooma device for phone service
Our network infrastructure was pretty much set up before our CenturyLink service got activated. Once our internet service was on we decided to put our ZyXEL c1000z modem/wireless router in Bridge mode. I knew that setting the modem in Bridge mode would sacrifice the remaining gigabit lan ports.
We then log into our DIR 825 B1 router w/ DDWRT and configured the PPPoE settings that I got from CenturyLink. Obviously we are taxing our router becuase it's our firewall, router, and radius WAP. So far based on the speedtest below this works great as our speedtest is awesome.
The two workstations on switch#2 where the users who primarily uses it log in with their roaming profile works flawlessly since all the network traffic doesn't need to flow to other parts of the network.
The workstation in the Big Kidz room on switch#1 are not roaming profiles and only authenticates on the Server on switch#2 then all traffic goes through the D-Link router. So far no complaints.
This is our setup at the Lincoln Pointe Loft apartment complex. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions about our setup. Thank you.
